Warning the following contains spoilers. “I think, with a lot of dramas, people come back to them hoping to see the same characters, and be assured by the same characters every week. You know what you’re getting most of the time when you tune into a drama. What we always hoped with Black Mirror is that you don’t know what you’re getting…” So said writer and series creator Charlie Brooker in a recent BAFTA Q&A, which took place after a private screening of series two’s opening episode, Be Right Back. Of all the Black Mirror episodes we’ve seen so far, White Bear fulfilled that remit outlined above; its horror-infused drama leaves us unsure whom we can trust or what will happen next, and its last act is truly gut-wrenching. Like protagonist Victoria Lenora Crichlow, we’re left bewildered by the episode’s assaultive opening. Waking up in a chair to the hiss of TV static, Victoria finds herself in an apparently ordinary house. Her wrists have been bandaged, possibly from a self-inflicted wound; a little sprinkling of pills lies at her feet. Confused, Victoria ventures outside, emerging into the autumn gloom of a British housing estate. Its residents stand eerily silent behind plastic double glazing, recording Victoria’s every movement on their mobile phones. We’re barely given more than a few seconds to ponder the meaning of all this before a blue car pulls up, a masked man exits, withdraws a shotgun from the boot, and takes careful aim at Victoria’s head. Just as Be Right Back appeared to mark a growing confidence in Charlie Brooker’s writing, with its subtle approach giving the events and performances greater impact, so White Bear sees Brooker pare back his use of dialogue to an extent rarely seen in television drama. These opening scenes, which are almost bereft of chatter other than Victoria’s plaintive “Can you help me? I can’t remember who I am,” are all the more effective for their economy, and the subsequent chase, which begins with that masked figure pulling a gun from his car, is truly the stuff of nightmares – like Kafka with added mobile phone cameras. Admittedly, the use of amnesia isn’t the most original of plot devices, but the fearsome pace director Carl Tibbetts brings to the story’s first act gives us little time to reflect on this. Before we know it, Victoria’s survived a Dawn Of The Dead-like encounter at a petrol station, and teamed up with Jem Tuppence Middleton, a feisty young woman who has a much stronger handle on the situation. The population, she tells us, has been enslaved by subliminal messages on TVs and mobile phones. While most have become zombie-like voyeurs, one in ten have devolved into hunters, like the one with the mask and the shotgun. “They seemed normal,” Jem explains, “but then they realised they could do what they like. And now they’ve got an audience.” As a helpful rescuer played by Kill List’s Michael Smiley turns out to be another vicious hunter, the sense of horror keeps building; the use of woodland settings, crucified bodies and the gleeful waving around of power tools evokes the memory of a legion 70s exploitation movies, helped along by Crichlow’s uncanny ability to emit blood-curdling screams. If there’s a criticism to be levelled at the first two-thirds of White Bear, it’s that Victoria’s carried helplessly along by events. It’s only at the end of the second act that Victoria stops crying and finally takes control, and pulls the trigger on a shotgun herself – and that sputtering blast signals the plot’s icily abrupt left turn. As what turns out to be a television set parts to reveal a baying studio audience, it briefly seems as though Victoria has been involved in some sort of Derren Brown-style hypnotic experiment – like last year’s Apocalypse, perhaps, where a lazy young man was prodded out of inactivity by being fooled into thinking he was trapped in the middle of a zombie armageddon. Instead, the truth is revealed to be much, much darker Victoria is a criminal, convicted for her part in the brutal killing of a young girl. As punishment, she’s subjected to the repeated physical and psychological torture of Whitebear Justice Park, an enclosed space where the public can observe and record her daily suffering, like a cross between Michael Crichton’s West World and Woburn Safari Park. The final act is powerful for several reasons. While the rug-pull turn of events is a great one for those who didn’t expect it, the truth of Victoria’s past is more shocking still. The similarities between real-life murderers – Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley – are obvious, the prolonged scenes of Michael Smiley’s master tormentor and his enraged crowd disquieting; there are several visual and thematic parallels to The Wicker Man and Kill List, in which Smiley also starred. Nasty though White Bear is, with its allusions to real-life witch hunts often led by red-top newspapers, it’s more than mere attention-seeking there’s a certain sense of morality underlying this episode, as there so often is in Black Mirror. White Bear explores how human empathy breaks down when individuals are reduced to an image on a screen, and concludes, quite rightly, that whether it’s directed at the innocent or the guilty, cruelty is still cruelty. Once again, strong ideas, intelligent writing and great direction came together to create a disturbing reflection of the present. Depuis le sommet Avengers en 2012, le plaisir pris devant les "petits" Marvel en gros, les deux Ant-Man autorisait une théorie et si c'était dans les films mineurs du MCU, les entre-deux, que la Formule Marvel marchait le mieux ? Avec la modestie qui correspondrait à ce qu'ils devraient êytre absolument comme des comic book movies 90s faits avec métier, sans autre prétention que de nous divertir pendant les longs étés du passé. OK, la théorie est fragile difficile de qualifier un film comme Black Widow de petit quand il a coûté au bas mot 200 millions de dollars, mais le spin-off consacré à la super-espionne incarnée par Scarlett Johansson est clairement un "petit" film quand on le compare à Endgame, Black Panther ou au dernier Spider-Man, que ce soit en termes d'échelle ou d'enjeux. Sans spoiler, nous voici donc entre Civil War et Infinity War, quand Natasha Romanoff se planquait des autorités terriennes pour cause de non-respect des accords de Sokovie les fans vous expliqueront mieux que nous, si vous êtes largués. La promesse du film est ainsi d'explorer le passé de la Veuve noire, de la doter d'une famille et d'une vraie épaisseur. Du côté familial, c'est réussi, puisque le film ne s’envisage pas tellement comme un émouvant adieu à Black Widow mais comme l’assurance de la continuité via les liens du sang la formidable Florence Pugh, qui incarne la sœur de Natasha, est bel et bien taillée pour la reprise, et on s'attend à ce que les fans tombent aussi raides dingues de Red Guardian, le Captain America russe incarné par un David Harbour beauf et rigolard. Mais, si on creuse plus profondément, est-ce qu'il se passe quelque chose du côté du cinéma ? Black Widow est le premier Marvel à revenir sur grand écran après une pandémie où les séries Disney +, intelligemment marketés et diffusés, ont réussi à maintenir l'intérêt du public et à squatter les lignes éditoriales des sites. Et, de fait, le plaisir de voir un film du MCU sur grand écran est important, augmenté par le sentiment de manque induit par le Covid. Encore cette histoire de formule, de recette ; on en a toujours pour son argent. L'ouverture de Black Widow laisse même de grands espoirs nous sommes en 1995, et une famille d'espions russes devinez qui inflitrés en Ohio est grillée et doit s'échapper en pleine nuit. Le rythme monte petit à petit, la caméra glisse la nuit le long de lieux sacrés américains -un fast-food, un pont métallique, un stade illuminé par les "lumières du vendredi soir"- le tout au son d’American Pie de Don McLean, avant de nous entraîner dans une course-poursuite entre un avion de tourisme et une horde de flics... Mais après cela, Black Widow retombera vite sous les effets de la Formule Marvel, dans son dernier acte routinier, rempli de supersoldats cyber à la GI Joe et de bastons numériques sur fond vert sans doute précalculées par des concept designers avant même que la réalisatrice Cate Shortland ne s'empare du projet. La personnalité du film malheureusement, se dilue peu à peu alors que la Formule prend le contrôle. Est-ce un hasard si on a l'impression d'entendre au détour de la bande-son -au demeurant formidable- de Lorne Balfe un extrait de la BO de Moonraker ? Bon, on vous rassure, on est loin du nanar spatial de 007, mais après dix ans passées dans l'ombre des figures masculines du MCU, Black Widow méritait mieux que cette traque un peu secondaire d'un grand méchant tout aussi secondaire. Le fait que le McGuffin du film soit une formule chimique capable de modifier le libre arbitre n'est qu'une coïncidence -pas si amusante que ça, en fait- à une époque où les blockbusters du MCU sont capables de drainer tout le grand public contemporain. Alors Black Widow, en deux mots, c'est comment ? Oui, c'est pas mal, c'est sympa, ça fait même un peu du bien, mais ça n'est pas aussi grand que ça voudrait l'être. Pas un point final au passage de Scarlett dans le MCU on prévoit déjà de la revoir, elle et Florence Pugh, mais une parenthèse, un épisode spécial qui se voit avec plaisir mais ne laissera pas de profonds souvenirs. Comme le chante Kurt Cobain dans le passage final de Smells Like Teen Spirit, curieusement zappé de la reprise reznoresque du générique d'ouverture de Black Widow well, whatever, nevermind.

In fact, it's the longest hiatus the show has ever seen since its premiere in 2011, even after the delay of its fifth season, with it having been over two years since then. The anthology series has been met with critical acclaim and massive popularity, taking place in the past, present and future and analyzing how all different forms of technology and screens — hence the name, "Black Mirror" — could change our lives, sometimes for the better but often for the worse. Although some episodes are certainly better than others, its cultural impact has been undeniable, and the past two years without getting to see new stories from the mind of Charlie Brooker have been difficult. To make the wait a little more bearable, we've decided to take a look at all the information currently available about the future of "Black Mirror" and make some educated guesses at when we might be able to see Season 6, as well as what stories and actors we could see within it. When is Black Mirror Season 6 coming out? Saeed Adyani/Netflix Unfortunately, we don't have official word on whether Season 6 of "Black Mirror" is happening or not, much less when it would. Although the show hasn't been outright canceled, it seems to be on an indefinite hiatus, with creator and writer Charlie Brooker stating that the horrors of 2020 might decrease audiences' appetite for the dystopian series. Instead, Brooker took part in writing and producing the "Death to 2020" comedy special for Netflix, which released at the tail end of the year. We don't know what he's been up to this year, but it's possible he's been working on writing for a new season, just as much as it's entirely possible he hasn't been. Whatever the case, it's safe to assume from past production cycles that a new season would take at least a year to produce, meaning that if writing started in January 2021 after Brooker finished "Death to 2020," the earliest we would likely see a new season of "Black Mirror" would be early 2022. What is the cast of Black Mirror Season 6? Netflix "Black Mirror" is an anthology series, which means that each episode contains an entirely new cast with original characters. However, there have been exceptions where the same actor has portrayed multiple characters in different episodes, including Hannah John-Kamen, Michaela Coel, and Daniel Lapaine. Brooker also stated in an interview with The Independent that he had ideas for sequels to the episodes "White Bear" and "Be Right Back," potentially providing the opportunity for both episodes' casts to return, including Lenora Crichlow, Hayley Atwell, and Domhnall Gleeson. With more recent seasons casting both British and American actors, from celebrities like Miley Cyrus to lesser-known cast members, there's really no limit to who we might see in the future. As discussed on a Reddit thread by u/DeviantDevi, some actors fans would love to see include Bryan Cranston, Hugh Laurie, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslany, Rosamund Pike, Jared Leto, John Boyega, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Driver, Danny DeVito and "the whole parks and recreation cast." Honestly, nobody is off limits. What stories will we see in Black Mirror Season 6? Netflix Like its cast, the nature of an anthology series makes it difficult to predict exactly what might happen in a future season of "Black Mirror," with every episode so far being self-contained. That said, every episode takes place in the same world, with Easter eggs and similar technology popping up in different stories. As it often takes place in the present, it would be interesting to see how a dystopian show like "Black Mirror" could work with the pandemic we're all experiencing. Could we see a story in which technology helps people stay connected, or how it distorts reality as a person's only view of the outside world is their screen? How about a story set in a future pandemic, hundreds of years from now? If we end up getting sequels to "Be Right Back," it would be interesting to see how the android recreation of the deceased Ash Gleeson changes as time elapses. As he gains new experiences over the years, is he still Ash? Or does he begin to deteriorate as time goes on, becoming a sort of abomination? For "White Bear," we could imagine a scenario where the people being tortured by experiencing the same horrific day over and over again before having their memories wiped somehow manage to escape, kind of like a demented version of "The Good Place."
